Dream-like, Mysore Palace – of colors, domes & art!

Some places elevate your mood, and make you feel special. Mysore Palace is definitely such place. I have been to Mysore 7-8 times in last 10 years & have never missed paying a visit to the royal palace for it makes me feel special.

When I visited the palace for the first time in 2008, they didn’t allow you to click pictures inside & the security guards on patrol will confiscate your mobile phone (equipped with 2megapixel cameras) if you as much prepare to take a picture. From then to now, Mysore Palace has also grown with its digitally guided tours, permission to click pictures & ever growing popularity of Dussehra festivities.

What I love about Mysore Palace

What’s the point of travel if it doesn’t teach you a thing or two about your past, about your legacy & lineage. Apart from the usual artefacts & decorative items, I love the life-size portraits of former Mysore kings, queens & their children. And my favorite are the ones painted by Raja Ravi Verma. If you look intently, you might just strike a casual conversation with the painted figures.

No?

You don’t talk to paintings.

I see. Then, it must be just me.

What you might love about the Palace

The fact that you produce just amazing pictures in Mysore palace blows my mind. No matter how you look, how you pose and how basic your camera features are – you are bound to click some amazing pictures in this place as the palace is lit like crazy. There’s just some fantastic natural lighting & not clicking any pictures there would be criminal, to say the least.

What everyone loves

The arches, the bright colors, the wall paintings, the courtroom, the old staircases, the beautiful, wooden doors & the smell of the place. As much time as you spend inside, as much difficult it gets to leave the place. And as you muster the will to do that, you take a bit of light & a bit of smell of that place with you only to experience it once again when you revisit the palace.
