Somebody said that all good things in life are free. I couldn’t agree enough – a warm sunny afternoon in December, or dipping your feet in a gushing stream of water, or the colorful spread on an otherwise clean sky on evening – all are free, and the best of experiences.

I thought I had seen all of it until I visited Pushkar last year during the annual Pushkar fair of 2017 – which is a weekend trip from Delhi by the way.

Imagine deserts. Then imagine unruly animals. Top it up with sweltry days. And then incredibly huge crowds. Does it make you claustrophobic yet? That’s where Pushkar got you. In spite of seemingly un-travel like conditions, Pushkar comes alive & fits perfectly in the itinerary of every kind of traveller much like Jio.

For the Spiritual Soul:

Pushkar proudly claims to be the only place in the world with Lord Brahma’s temple. It’s considered auspicious to take a dip in the nearby lake & offer prayers in the temple of Kartik Poornima that happens to be the last day of Pushakr fair. So, if Indian mythology, religions or spirituality appeals to you, come to Pushkar for a casual conversation with monks, or prayers in the old temples.

For the Photography Passionate:

It’s an animal fair where people come to buy and sell livestock – thousands of them. However, more than the livestock, you find photographers at every inch, hanging around, with cameras in their hands, around their necks, and eyes scanning the surroundings for a potential viral sensation. And I don’t blame them. It’s a different kind of beautiful in there. Beyond the sand, across the dust storms & in the middle of the most humble settings, one realises that all things beautiful, and all things good don’t have to necessarily come with a premium.

For the Travel-fanatic Fella:

And if you are like me, this is what I have to advise: dress up (for the pictures come beautiful here), eat to your heart’s contents in the cafes, go for long walks and meet fellow travellers, strike conversations, click pictures with camels, and go for safaris.

Best was – talking to locals. The one I spoke with kept talking about Modiji and how he has solved the water problem in last 2-4 years. For him, ‘acche din’ have arrived. We might or might not agree with them, but it’s interesting to hear perspectives.

And for every single person who loves India as much as the message about account being credited on the last working day of every month, Pushakar is Incredible in its own not-so-overwhelmingly ways.

There’s just something extraordinary in its ordinary deserts.

There are colors splattered here & there in this otherwise single toned place.

There is somthing fancy about the rural & unruly settings of this arid town.

There is something deeply satisfying about roaming around this dry, humid town.

There’s a lot incredible about Pushak which you experience only when you go there.
