Ditch your routine and chase the monsoons in Goa

Most of the days I wake up dreading what’s awaiting me during the day (not all, but parts of it). Some days I wake up with a smile on my face, because I got to sleep till late that day. No points in guessing that those days belong to weekends. Sleeping till late is not the only perk of weekends, they also bring with itself the chance of breaking the rules, flouting the time table, doing as you please and leaving the comfort of the four walls and roaming around in the wilderness for 48 hours and sometimes a little more than that.

It doesn’t necessarily has to be wilderness; it could be commercially maintained mountains, beautiful valleys, ancient monuments, gigantic falls, musical temples and it could be beaches. Oh, beaches! When you sit by a beach, roughly covered under a shack, with Sunlight falling on your legs, with your head back and eyes closed; it’s the best place to be in. And when the tiny rain drops fall on you, amidst the Sunlight, a rainbow shines somewhere far away.

I am not a big fan of drizzling though. Never liked anything in moderation. I either prefer a sunny day or roaring rains. As a kid, I would often get an unannounced holiday owing to rains. There was a name for it. It was a ‘Rainy Day’ & Rainy day meant no homework, no classes and no PT – only TV and play. Good, old days!

I can’t avail a rainy day any more but I can definitely chase the rains which is what I did last year in Goa, same time.

From South to Central to North Goa

We began from Bangalore & started driving towards Goa. To make the journey more worthwhile, we stayed in Karwar, a beautiful beach town in Karnataka. In the evening when it’s all breezy, pakodas tasted a bit crunchier & the sugar less chai was much sweeter for I was by the beach, and it was beautiful. It meant no work, no anxiety, no awkwardness. Only pleasure and play!

Drive to Colva and on a beach trail

The next day, it began raining. Goa in monsoon was prettier, greener and cooler. The beaches were deserted with no shacks & no functioning cafes. My favorite Jaime’s was shut down too. But my other two favorites were very much alive – CCD by Colva Beach & Martin’s corner. Ate to my heart’s contents there & spent the rest of the day getting drenched & hopping beaches.

Being Monsoon-ish!

The next day, I spent the entire day running away from the beach to under a tree, from the tree to a shop’s roof & from there to the nearest CCD. Rains were playing with me too. It would pour and then it wouldn’t. I would buy sliced Pineapple from a vendor and as I would bite into the juicy slice, it would pour again. It went on like this…until I was completely drenched, happy and free.

When was the last time you were drenched in rains? Long back?

When was the last time you felt free – like a bird?

For me, it was last year in Goa when both happened at the same time. What are you waiting for?

Road trips are interesting and fun! I love beaches but an overcast beach, rains accompanied by strong wind is not really what a photographer in me will enjoy. Overcast sky on a beach good though! I would rather drive through the narrow lanes amidst the village and farms in Goa! Or maybe enjoy my stay at a nice resort in Varca or Mobor!

You are kind 🙂 But I would want to really develop the kind of eye you have for the seemingly ordinary things that are extraordinary.

haha! People around me think otherwise! Thanks for giving that honour! You say that based on pictures or stories, Yamini?
