We were on our way to Khajjiar from Dalhousie & were ardently following the Google Maps when Dainkund happened. Near the ‘Lakkad Bazaar’ in Dalhousie, we had to take the turn down the road while we took the one leading to the top of the hill. And we landed in the most beautiful place of Himachal – the Dainkund peak.

Made of the peaks & valleys, Dainkund was carpeted with the most beautiful looking white flowers in the month of May. The white flowers amongst the green grass under the blue sky was a promise of an even more beautiful sight from the top of the Dainkund peak. Without wasting a second, we began our trek to the peak under the guidance of the buzzing wind & blooming flowers. 

As you trek towards the peak, you are greeted by a swarm of butterflies hopping from one flower to another, in pursuit of joy. Occasionally, you will see a colorful beetle hiding itself behind the white petals of delicate flowers. The team of butterflies & beetles is also joined by the honeybees, buzzing from flower to flower, feeding on the nectar & creating music on the go. 

If you follow the music made by bees, you can easily reach the top of the trek with your eyes closed. If not that, catch a moment in the middle of this beauty & music; spend some time with yourself & gaze at the flowers.

You will feel pretty. You will feel at peace. Most importantly, you will feel at ease. 

You will be busy watching the butterflies, listening to the music of bees & reveling in the beauty of flowers when the hill decides to sing for you. A cool breeze blows along the peaks & valleys & gently caresses your face. Close your eyes & feel the song; you may notice the up’s & down’s of the song. And if you listen closely, you will hear the words too. 

If you wish to sing along with the hill, prepare to trek fast. Prepare to jump, hop & leap. Listen & follow the way wind is blowing. Give an ear to the cool air & play with the breeze. Join the tunes & sing along. 

And as you sing with the hill, you rediscover the music that’s been long lost inside you. You find yourself humming the tunes that you remembered when you were a kid. You even throw your legs in the air when no one is looking. 

And when you finally reach the peak, you see mountains & hills. The wind suddenly starts howling & everyone sings in a choir – the peaks, the valleys, the trees, the bees, the flowers & you. 

Everyone becomes part of a big, musical – right there on the top of the mountain; right there on the top of the world. 

Music knows no boundaries. And you know that when you sing with the Singing hill of India. You sing like no tomorrow. You sing to live the moment. You sing loud because you know that no one is there. You sing louder because you know that you don’t care any more.

Just when your song finishes & you are about to go back, a breeze comes from nowhere & whispers something in your ears. You don’t understand what that means, but you know in your heart that you will keep the music alive inside you. You will sing every day because you love it. You will sing because it feels like top of the world. You will sing because it’s all you want & it’s a part of you.

You might not know your notes. You might not know your tunes. Still, you may visit the Dainkund peak & sing the song of your life because you know, the Singing hill, never disappoints you.
