Come South India, and all you see around- is – coconut trees – at all geometrical angles possible. You see tall, towering coconut trees, standing with pride. You see slightly flexible coconut trees pulling off all Yogamudras that you can’t even think of. You see coconut trees, one after the other, along the road, waving goodbyes with cheek-to-cheek smiles. It’s a spectacular sight, really! Tall coconut trees against the backdrop of clouds produce the best pictures ever. I clicked this one using my MOTO G:
Having done most of my trips in parts of South India, I usually turn to coconut water to quench my thirst, to get refreshed & to gain my energy back. The electrolytes really do a great job of getting all your energy back & propel you to move ahead in your journey to cover more Highways. Here’s another one from my MOTO G:
The best part of coconut trees, remains coconut water for me. You may just grab one, put a straw in & gulp it all down. It’s a great 2 minute snack & healthy too. So far, I have only been drinking from the green coconuts. This time, during my road trip to Kerala, I saw a new one – bright, orange & ripe. They are called King Coconuts.

King Coconuts are sweeter & much more welcoming. Upon some search on Google, I realised that this baby also has some health benefits which is why it’s also called Ayurvedic coconut. Very interesting!
King Coconut Trivia:
- Indigenous to Sri Lanka, it’s known as Thembili to locals.
- Its natural properties of expelling heat from the body, results in aqua freshness.
So, my favorite road trip drink has got some options now. I have taken quite a liking to the king coconut. Next time, you are in Kerala or other parts of South India & you spot this bright, orange colored baby sitting next to the green coconuts. Know that this is the king coconut – sweeter & healthier. Give it a try & sip your way to happiness!
Coconut Cheers!
